Overland journey from Darien, Walworth County, Wisconsin, to Hangtown, California / by Silas Newcomb, 1850-1895.

The journal describes the 1850 trip from Wisconsin to California traveling by stage and steamboat to St. Louis, St. Joseph, and Kanesville, where Newcomb joined the Beloit Company. The group went overland by the Platte and Sweetwater, Fort Bridger, Salt Lake City, Weber River, the Mormon Route, the California Trail, the Humboldt, Carson River, and Hangtown. The journal records Newcomb's work in the mines, his voyage to Oregon, and life there.
